National African-American History Museum
This past Saturday, there was an opening held for the new African-American history museum in Washington, D.C. This museum gives a better outlook on the history of America as a whole. The museum will give a better understanding of history such as slavery and also of current nation debates between law enforcement and people of the black community. According to Obama, "perhaps it can help a white visitor understand the pain and anger of demonstrators in places like Ferguson, and Charlotte. But it can also help black visitors appreciate the fact that not only is this younger generation carrying on traditions of the past, but within the white communities across the nation, we see the sincerity in law enforcement officers and officials who, in fits and starts, are struggling to understand and trying to do the right thing". Obama hopes that this museum brings people together and make people talk to one another. He calls it an "act of patriotism" to understand African-American history and the struggles of all Americans. Hopefully I get to experience this museum soon!

I hope you get to go, too, Autumn! It was a momentous occasion, and America needs more memorials to great African Americans in our lives. We also need to recognize, remember, and rethink our everyday ways of treating one another, particularly with regard to race. I hope the museum helps in our ongoing civil rights struggles!
