E Portfolio

Dear future College Writing 2 , this year was all about progress and growth for me. Helpful tools such as drafting, help from peers and even Dr. Kyburz's word explanation all helped me improve as a writer.

The Mallone Summary : This project is where I struggled the most. It just felt like my work wasn't good enough and I really didn't know what else to add. Looking at others work can help guide you because sometimes others think of things that you might forget or notice things you don't notice yourself. I am going to revise it again and shoot for an A taking in all the advice from peers and professor.

Microtheme: The microtheme was my favorite project. It was really creative writing and we were able to talk about things we felt passionately about. I think this was some of my best work in the class as well. The hard part about writing the microtheme was staying focused on one specific aspect of the problem. The page could only be one page long so trying to condense a hard subject could be tough.

This picture illustrates growth because my writing has gotten better and I learned life long techniques like talking as real people in the real world because that's what we are! Thank you Dr. Kybrurz!

Sophomore 2

I am really excited, anxious, and nervous about next semester. Next semester is going to be a whole different ball game in the college of nursing. Next semester we will be doing a lot of hands on stuff in the labs and during clinicals. I will be taking all nursing classes next semester as well. I am excited about this because I am finally able to learn about things I'm interested in. We will be practicing in the hospitals as well and get to wear scrubs. I am nervous about my pathology class though...I hear its a tough class that many people fail. But on the bright side, college is halfway over! Staying focused on my goals! #futureRN

Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving break was much needed. Sometimes you just need a mental break to help you get back on track. I loved that all my family got together and spent quality time. I enjoyed spending time with my grandma and mother as I helped them prepare thanksgiving dinner. I was in charge of the mac&cheese. I loved that I got to relax relax and relaxxx..sleeping in was everything. Almost time for winter break!

The Election

This picture just says so much. What does it mean to you?

Before election night, I didnt think Trump was going to be in office. I was thinking."america is not dumb enough to elect him as the leader of our country,". I also saw that a lot of the election polls predicted hillary to win so I thought we had nothing to worry about.
Well man was I in for a reawakening. On the night of Nov, 8th I was freaking out because Trump was winning and all of the predictions were wrong! I woke up at 4am just to see that Trump won! How did this happen?? Now I'm just waiting for the outcome. Ughh I don't know what to think or expect now.

I also saw an article that stated that Obama will sign executive order declaring an investigation on the election results. There will be a recount as of Dec 15 2016. Maybe we might have another shot!

Class Reflection

I really like how this class flows. Its really easy going but the work is very critical. I like the creative effect of this course as compared to other analytical college writing courses. I like how Dr. Kyburz teaches us and how she wants us to succeed. I also like how we are able to voice our opinions on current even topics without worrying about others judging you. I like that Dr. Kyburz sets the tone to makes students feel comfortable to share their opinions even if its opposite of her views. I really like the blog post idea because it is very different. It is like the social media for college writing 2 in a way.

Microtheme Reflection

I really liked this project. This project was short and to the point, yet creative and different. I like how we were able to talk about topic that means something to us. I also like how we were able to give our comments and concerns about the topic. One challenging part about the assignment was staying focused on one part of the topic. Usually, people like to go off on a rant on topics they feel strongly about but with this project we couldn't do that. This was very helpful and effective and can help us in the future.
I liked the micromodal idea as well. That part of the project was were we we able to get creative and use our imagination to create a small piece. I noticed that the short films had such a strong and powerful impact.

November 8th

November 8th is my birthday & Election Day. That day will be full of surprises, literally. I am looking forward to my birthday because I'm going to be officially apart of the "dub club". I will be 20 years old. Saying goodbye to my teenage years will be bitter-sweet. On the other hand, I am not looking forward to the election, but of course I will still vote. To be continued..

National African-American History Museum

This past Saturday, there was an opening held for the new African-American history museum in Washington, D.C. This museum gives a better outlook on the history of America as a whole. The museum will give a better understanding of history such as slavery and also of current nation debates between law enforcement and people of the black community. According to Obama, "perhaps it can help a white visitor understand the pain and anger of demonstrators in places like Ferguson, and Charlotte. But it can also help black visitors appreciate the fact that not only is this younger generation carrying on traditions of the past, but within the white communities across the nation, we see the sincerity in law enforcement officers and officials who, in fits and starts, are struggling to understand and trying to do the right thing". Obama hopes that this museum brings people together and make people talk to one another. He calls it an "act of patriotism" to understand African-American history and the struggles of all Americans. Hopefully I get to experience this museum soon!

something new..

When was the last time you did something for the first time? Well..over the weekend I got my first tattoo. Before getting it, I was so pumped and excited. Once the time grew closer and closer to the time my appointment was scheduled, I became more nervous. Upon arriving at the place,  was sweating bullets. When I got into the chair, I began shaking. I kept asking the tattoo guy, named Juan, if it was going to hurt. I really wanted to back out of it but everyone was rooting for me and waiting for me to let them know how it went, so I knew I couldn't back out now. I also thought about how so many other people have tattoos so it cant be as bad as I was thinking. I wanted the tattoo on my back, under my right shoulder. Then the time came..I heard the "zzzzz" of the needle and made sure my boyfriend was in reach so I could hold his hand. Once the needle touched my back, it was like a relief. It wasn't bad at all. All that worrying for nothing. I got "love yourself first" in Arabic so it only took like 12 minutes. So yeah, I think my biggest fear in this situation was not knowing what to expect; fear of the unknown. And now I'm ready for another one!

Design..

So..I picked a background that I liked but I guess it was too much background at first. I played around with some other backgrounds. The others were cute but I feel like it just wasn't me. So I went with back with my first choice. I still have some more designing to do but what do you guys think?

Rhetoric

Throughout class, we have discussed the term rhetoric. Rhetoric is a way of writing that is persuasive. This type of writing appeals to an audience. Rhetoric is not only a form a writing, but it is also portrayed in our everyday lives. For example, on televison, the presidential candidates display different types of rhetoric in their speeches to gains votes. I'm still trying to gain more knowledge on rhetoric. I also enjoyed the video from class. I thought it was different and interesting.
